About MDAC
The Mental Disability Advocacy Center (MDAC) is an international human rights organisation which advances the rights of children and adults with intellectual disabilities and psycho-social disabilities. MDAC uses law to promote equality and social inclusion through strategic litigation, advocacy, research and monitoring and capacity-building. MDAC operates at the global level as well as regional and domestic levels in Europe and Africa.
MDAC is headquartered in Budapest, Hungary and was registered as a foundation by the Budapest Capital Court (registration number 8689) in November 2002. The Open Society Foundations (OSF) founded MDAC and continues to be one of its donors. MDAC has special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council, participatory status with the Council of Europe and is a member of the Fundamental Rights Platform of the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights.

Job description
Job title: Finance Assistant
Reports to: Finance and Administration Director (FAD)
Liaises with: MDAC staff, consultants, service providers and partners
Working hours: 20 hours per week
Goal: To provide such assistance to the Finance and Administration Director to ensure the smooth-running of the finances of the organisation.
Tasks
- Ensures that each financial transaction is backed up with appropriate documentation before it is paid under the FAD’s and the contracted accountant’s supervision and according to MDAC’s finance policy;
- Acts as a bank signatory with limited entitlements;
- Checks staff’s expense sheets and prepares the ED’s expense sheets for authorisation;
- Acts as cashier with limitations;
- Monitors bank accounts on an everyday basis and reconciles debit card invoices and authorisation forms to the bank statements;
- Provides accurate budget coding according to MDAC organisational and grant budgets;
- Keeps financial documentation up-to-date and filed in an accurate and timely manner in cooperation with the accountant;
- Prepares financial reports according to the FAD’s requests on spending (per income stream, per cost type, or other);
- Liaises with outside providers in relation to cafeteria benefits, purchases them and distributes these as instructed to staff;
- Keeps record of staff’s absence including appropriate documentation and informs the accountant;
- Ensures human resource data are kept in order;
- Updates and manages MDAC Skype-for-business account;
- Carries out other tasks as reasonably expected for a person in this position.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Degree in Finance / Accounting (college and/or chartered accountant postgraduate course)
Work Experience
Minimum one year experience working in a finance role
Personal attributes and skills
- A passion for human rights;
- Attention to detail;
- Excellent numeracy skills;
- Good prioritisation skills;
- Hands-on mentality, proactive and ability to work independently;
- Computer literate with excellent knowledge of Excel, Word and Internet search engines, experience in using an ERP system is a plus;
- Proficiency in English and Hungarian language.
