PURPOSE OF POSITION:
To maintain all financial records, closely monitor the office budget, ensure accurate and timely reporting to headquarters and to provide administrative reporting and assistance to the Director. The selected candidate will work closely with program managers to ensure smooth and timely delivery of high quality outputs. Supervise and manage full-time Finance Assistant.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Prepares monthly and annual accrual-based financial reports, journal entries, general ledger and sub-ledgers for IIE Europe accounts in Hungarian and US GAAP.
  2. Prepares monthly bank reconciliations and reviews petty cash reports. Provides Director with regular reports of bank balances and currency on-hand.
  3. Reviews monthly payroll calculations from service provider; prepares journal entries and processes payroll.
  4. Prepares and files local tax and statutory reports.
  5. Assists Director with budget preparation for the office and participates in the budget review and approval process with headquarters.
  6. Prepares monthly and quarterly budget to actual report with variance explanations for Director review.
  7. Compiles staff timekeeping records for payroll processing.
  8. Manages financial control procedures, including adherence to all compliance and local governmental requirements.
  9. Manages monthly and quarterly cashflow projections to meet program and operational cash needs.
  10. Assists in the preparation of the Director’s request for funds from headquarters.
  11. Service contract arrangement and office supply procurement.
  12. Responsible for invoice controls and timely payment management.

QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

  1. A university degree in accounting or finance and at least 4 years of progressively responsible experience (required).
  2. Registered chartered accountant qualification (required).
  3. Experience with US GAAP a plus.
  4. Proficiency with technology, especially word processing, databases and spreadsheets.
  5. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) in English and Hungarian.
  6. Ability to organize and process a heavy workload and constantly changing priorities and tasks under strict deadlines.
  7. Consistently follows-up on tasks, takes ownership of responsibilities and able to effectively work on multiple tasks.
  8. Ability to focus on detail and a strong commitment to quality.
  9. Cross-cultural sensitivity, international awareness, and ability to work cooperatively with others.
  10. Strong judgment and ability to independently solve problems.
  11. Interest in international education.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works directly under the supervision of the Director and indirectly with the Assistant Controller-International Operations, based in the US Headquarters. Operates independently within established parameters.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Daily oversight and supervision of Finance Assistant.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • 40 hours per week; some evenings and weekend in the busy work seasons.
