Program Summary: Schwarzman Scholars was inspired by the Rhodes Scholarship, which was founded in 1902 to promote international understanding and peace, and is designed to meet the challenges of the 21st century and beyond. Blackstone Co-Founder Stephen A. Schwarzman personally contributed $100 million to the program and is leading a fundraising campaign to raise an additional $250 million from private sources to endow the program in perpetuity. The $350 million endowment will support 200 scholars annually from the U.S., China and around the world for a one-year Master’s Degree program at Tsinghua University in Beijing, one of China’s most prestigious universities and an indispensable base for the country’s scientific and technological research. Scholars chosen for this highly selective program will live in Beijing for a year of study and cultural immersion, attending lectures, traveling, and developing a better understanding of China. Admissions will open in the fall of 2015, with the first class of students in residence by the summer of 2016.
Purpose of Position: The Senior Outreach & Selection Officer is responsible for creating and implementing a student outreach plan targeting fellowship advisors, faculty and senior university administrators, prospective applicants, and other key stakeholders in Europe. S/He will also be responsible for managing selection activities in region, including identifying selection committee members; planning and moderating external committees; overseeing finalist identification and reporting to the Project Lead on selection outcomes. Cultivating strategic relationships, convincingly and professionally representing the fellowship opportunity, implementing high level outreach events and activities, and managing thorough and transparent selection processes are central to this position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Conduct outreach activities in region to create awareness of the fellowship opportunity; making presentations to university educators and administrators, prospective students, and other relevant stakeholders; attending fairs and conferences; hosting informational workshops and webinars; and, facilitating regional mailing campaigns, both virtual and hardcopy.
- Manage the selection process for the region’s applicants.
- Manage the region-specific application process, including providing regional expertise on educational systems and credentials as part of the technical review of incoming applications; responding to applicant queries throughout the application process.
- Supervise a program officer who will also implement student outreach and selection activities in Europe.
- Provide required data and activity reporting as required.
- Travel and participate in program events (domestic or international) as assigned.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in higher education administration, international education, or related field preferred.
- Five to seven years of work experience, with at least four years of experience directly related to university admissions, enrollment management and/or administration of fellowship/scholarship programs.
- International experience, preferably in Europe in an educational or non-profit environment.
- Experience in student supervision/grantee management is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of the higher education landscape and prestigious graduate fellowship opportunities, particularly in Europe.
- Demonstrated adaptability in dealing with changing circumstances.
- Excellent commitment to quality and customer focus. Ability to build and maintain effective relationships.
- Ability to maintain compliance with guidelines, policies and procedures.
- Strong spoken and written communication skills, to convey information to individuals and groups of varying educational, cultural, and experience levels.
- Diversity awareness and cross-cultural skills. Proven ability to work effectively across different world regions.
- High level of integrity and accountability; ability to exercise discretion on confidential matters and communicate with tact and diplomacy.
- Strong organizational, planning, and scheduling skills with demonstrated ability to execute multiple projects on time and on budget.

S/He will support selection activities in region, including planning external committees; overseeing finalist identification and reporting to the Project Lead on selection outcomes. This position will work as part of a global team, with central coordination and leadership from a New York-based Project Lead.
